About the Item

Very nice original poster of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec published by Gustave Pellet in 1896 for an exhibition at La Plume. Familiar with various Parisian closed houses, Toulouse-Lautrec stays in particular a great moment in that of the street of Moulins, which he leaves the images of their residents in the salons or in their rooms. If most "painters of modern life" show these "hotels" as places of pleasure and represent the type of prostitute like a popular figure, Lautrec stands out by giving to see images without moral judgment and voyeurism. It minimizes the erotic or vulgar aspect and implies subtly the Vénal Report between the public girl and her client. The artist suggests with modesty the ordinary daily of these intended. It is with great tenderness and humanity that he describes the intimate moments of these girls of joy G. Pellet Paris

Circa 1900 Original poster for the Tillier dance Troup at the Palais de Glace
Located in PARIS, FR
The girl who has entered the theatrical profession as a child can be depended upon to lead a clean life when she grows up. She is far, far safer than the girl who enters the profession after childhood.' So wrote John Tiller, whose theatrical school produced the dancing ladies who starred in the original 'Pony Ballet' and whose troupes of 'Tiller Girls' were in great demand for shows not only in London but in Paris, Amsterdam, Turin, and New York. He and Mrs. Tiller began training youngsters at the age of nine. In the schools in London and Manchester, the girls had regular academic studies as well as dancing and were placed in Christmas pantomimes when still children. When they grew up, they were given jobs in various Tiller troupes (each managed by a mature woman who watched out for them)... [This lithograph]... was intended for all of the Tiller Troupe performances. The black type at the bottom was surprinted later to indicate, in this instance, their appearance at the Palais de Glace...
