About the Item

Fiorino is a 1922 liquor advertisement by Jean D'Ylen for Asti Spumante. The artwork features a Frenchman dressed in stereotypical colonial-era clothing. He tickles the face of the Spumante bottle as he is joyfully dancing with the oversized bottle of sparkling wine. The artwork features the use of Chartreuse printing ink, which was not a common printing color of the time. Jean Paul Beguin, better known as Jean D'Ylen (1886-1938) created many advertisements in early 1930's in this popular style, using stunning primary colors. The influence of Leonetto Cappiello on this artist's work is apparent in the dark background and the flowing, floating stance of the charismatic figure. After a career started as a jewelry designer, D'Ylen became an advertising illustrator for the publishing company Vercasson Paris. He later rose to prominence after Cappiello left the company in 1916. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

By Rene Vincent

This iconic poster of the Ramos-Pinto Company illustrated by Rene Vincent advertises the famous port wine featuring two lovers in profile leaning into one another with only a famous glass of the irresistible Porto Ramos between their lips. Vincent studied at the Ècole des Beaux-Arts, at first he studied architecture, then changed to graphic arts and ceramics courses. He was also an illustrator for La Vie Parisienne, The Saturday Evening Post, L’Illustration and Fantiso, with most of his contributions to these magazines being fashion illustrations.
