About the Item
IIn 1853, Louis Jules Périllieux-Michelez purchased the former abbey of Yerres in Seine-et-Oise. He developed a worsted wool spinning and weaving mill there. He marketed his wools under the brand name "A Sainte Geneviève." This brand was continued by his successors for a century. The factory was passed on to his son-in-law, Léon Blazy, and his brother. They continued the business by creating the company Blazy Frères. They achieved such fame that the spinning mill was nicknamed BZ.F by the staff and residents of the town of Yerres. In 1931, the factory was managed by the company "Laines et Tricots BZ.F." It ceased operations in 1945.

The artist, Leonetto Cappiello (1875-1942) was an Italian poster artist who worked in Paris. He is known for modernizing advertising design for the 20th Century. His compositions are uncomplicated and often feature a graceful figure with an oversized rendition of the product against a simple color background. The typography is often minimalized to be as direct and short as possible. This innovation allowed for the advertising to be eye-catching and understood at a moments’ glance. It was ideal for the fast paced travel and attention of busy city life.
This is an Original Vintage Poster. It is not a reproduction. This poster is printed on a light cardboard and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

Leonetto Cappiello
Leonetto Cappiello was born in 1875 in Livorno, Italy, but took on the nationality of French in 1930. He first achieved fame as a caricaturist, then by inventing the modern poster and creating the first brand logos, including the green devil for Maurin Quina. A self-taught artist, he created his first paintings in 1886. In November of 1900, he signed his first contract with the publisher P. Vercasson, for whom he produced posters from 1902 to 1913. After World War I he joined the publisher Devambez, for whom he worked until 1936. In 1922, his poster sketches were exhibited at the Venice Biennial and the French Institut in New York. In 1928 his “Self Portrait” was ordered by the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. In 1936 he participated in the Milan Triennial and the Exhibition of the French Poster in Prague. After his death in 1942, Cappiello’s work was the subject of retrospectives at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1947, the House of Culture in Livorno, Italy, in 1960 and the Grand Palais in Paris in 1981.

Located in Boca Raton, FL
In America during WWII, every resource was poured into the war effort. With over 12 million Americans - 11% of the total population - serving in the armed forces, everything from food to labor was tight on the Home Front. This poster depicts those who weren't drafted - a young woman and two older men - hard at work on an airplane engine. The text encourages the viewer to pitch in however they can at home, from working in production plants to buying war bonds.
The artwork includes a logo for the 6th War Loan, which is of a bomb dropping over the flag of Japan. The 6th War Loan began in November, 1944 with a goal of 16 billion dollars. The previous war bond drives raised in total 355 billion dollars, including 38 billion from individuals.
