Patrick O'Reilly
Heartfelt

2022

About the Item

This piece is entitled Heartfelt. It is a large scale outdoor sculpture. The bronze hand holds up a beautiful cracked heart. The crystalline art resin is purposely cracked using a chemical reaction. Then O'Reilly uses bronze staples to mend the heart. He is referencing Kintsugi, a Japanese philosophy, that aims to celebrate the beauty of cracks by highlight them rather than hiding them. O'Reilly is referencing the ups and downs of the human condition. This artwork is unique from a series. Patrick O’Reilly (b. 1957 Kilkenny, Ireland) is a highly acclaimed Irish artist who studied at the Belfast school of Art. He has since achieved international fame for his innovative and dynamic visual works, having exhibited throughout Ireland & Internationally for over two decades. His work is included in many international museums and important private collections, and in 1996 he was given a solo exhibition in the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery in Dublin. O’Reilly has also won many awards including the RHA sculpture prize. O’Reilly’s works are not only philosophical expressions of thoughts and experiences, but they also reflect his feelings, emotions, and personality. Monumental large-scale public commissions have allowed his sculptures to become much loved parts of the local landscape, particularly in Ireland, with prominent sculptures standing outside the 3 Arena, Adare Manor, Burlington Road & Sandycove in Dublin. However, his work can be found all over the world including Paris and Cape Town. O’Reilly is represented by many major galleries including the Mayor Gallery in London, Gallery Vallois in Paris, and Friedman Gallery on Maddison Avenue in New York. In addition, he has exhibited at prestigious international art fairs including Tefaf in Maastricht, At Basel & Art Miami. O’Reilly now lives and works between studios in Dublin, Venice, Madrid and the Auvergne.

  • The Missing Piece
    Located in Belfast, GB
The Missing Piece is a bronze artwork suitable for inside or outdoor display. Pollock is referencing life in with the crow and the puzzle piece. "I never limit myself to one subject or style of work and can never say where the work will go next, which makes it exciting for myself and I hope for the viewer. I like the fact that bronze is so permanent, a bronze sculpture is going to be around forever." - Pollock (2019) Dublin born sculptor Ian Pollock is primarily a self-taught artist who has spent his career working in the Cast Foundry in the Liberties area of Dublin. Working exclusively in bronze, Pollock has worked with art ever since he was a young child. His work is a three dimensional diary of his daily existence. His bronzes are cast using a 'cire perdue' (lost wax) method in ceramic shell moulds. In the pursuit of excellence, he has compiled meticulous craftsmanship in the medium of bronze sculpture. Inspiration for his sculptures comes from aspects of daily life, Pollock sees his work 'as a three dimensional diary' of his life; "I never limit myself to one subject or style of work and can never say where the work will go next, which makes it exciting for myself and I hope for the viewer. I like the fact that bronze is so permanent, a bronze sculpture is going to be around forever". Pollock has exhibited and sold his work throughout Ireland and the UK; including the Oireachtas, RHA, and the RUA (where he won the Mullan Prize for sculpture in 2003). Pollock's work can be found in the collections of the Office of Public Works and University College Dublin, as well as many private collections in Europe and the USA. Large commissions include an eleven foot flight of birds for Largy College in Clones, Co. Monaghan, along with many life size private commissions. Pollock continues to exhibit with Gormleys Gallery...
