Eugène Marioton (1857-1933), "Phoebe", scultura in bronzo firmata "E. Marioton sc." e "Salon de Beaux-Arts". Presentata al Salon del 1889 con un'accoglienza entusiastica, questa scultura testimonia l'eccezionale maestria del suo creatore. Con una raffinata doppia patina, che ne esalta i dettagli raffinati e conferisce alla scultura una notevole profondità, il bronzo poggia con grazia su un'elegante base in marmo rosa, decorata con piedini in ottone, che conferiscono un tocco di nobiltà all'insieme. Il titolo dell'opera, finemente inciso nel marmo e dorato con oro zecchino, sottolinea la cura dedicata a ogni elemento di questo pezzo eccezionale. Sebbene questo modello sia stato riprodotto in diversi esemplari, la qualità della finitura e dell'esecuzione rendono questa scultura un'opera rara e una preziosa testimonianza del savoir-faire artistico della fine del XIX secolo. Febe o Phoebe: "la splendente", è la Titanessa "dal diadema d'oro", come direbbe Esiodo; Moglie di Ceo, mantenne il suo posto in cielo dopo la rivolta dei Titani. Febe era la Titanessa della Luce, in seguito associata a Selene, la dea della luna. Era anche la Titanessa delle profezie, in particolare dell'oracolo di Delfi. Fu la terza dea a occuparsene, dopo Gaia e Temi. Eschilo, nell'introduzione alle Eumenidi, fa affermare alla Pizia stessa che Febe aveva il controllo di questo oracolo, che trasmise ad Apollo come regalo di compleanno. Eugène Marioton, nato il 7 aprile 1857 a Parigi, è uno scultore francese che lavora principalmente in bronzo. Le sue opere seguono le tradizioni del neoclassicismo, rappresentando piccole sculture in bronzo fuso di leader storici francesi e personalità dell'antica Grecia e Roma. Partecipò regolarmente alla Société des Artistes Français e fece parte della giuria per la sezione scultura del salone nel 1905. Prima della sua morte nel 1933, Marioton ricevette diversi premi per il suo lavoro, tra cui un premio dalla Société des Beaux-Arts e una borsa di studio per giovani artisti dal Conseil Général de la Seine nel 1884. He studied sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse from 1893 to 1896, where he trained in plaster works. He completed this teaching in the Barrias studio in Paris. He began to exhibit his works in 1899 at the Society of French Artists and in 1907 obtained a medal of honor at the Salon as well as an allowance to reside at the villa Abd-el-Tif in Algiers where he designed and produced the decorations. He returned there regularly until 1914. After the Great War, Poisson collaborated with the Compagnie des Arts Français with Süe and Mare.
