We are surrounded by graphic images, songs, greeting cards, and even paintings all created toward the effort of expressing romantic love. While so potent, and even sometimes transformative, love is imperceptible. Pity the artist. Yet in 1963, Raphael Coutoupe chiseled an idealized vision of two young people in love out of a beautifully grained block of wood.
