William Morris Hand-Blocked Sunflower Wallpaper Panel
By William Morris (English)
Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL
A 'Sunflower' pattern wallpaper panel designed by William Morris in 1879 and printed by Arthur Sanderson & Sons circa 1960 in a brilliant red and olive colorway.
First designed in 1879, the William Morris ‘Sunflower’ wallpaper pattern has lasting appeal and has been printed for many generations of wallpaper enthusiasts. The sunflower as a design motif became extremely popular in the late 19th century in conjunction with the Arts & Crafts and Aesthetic Movements, which looked to nature for design inspiration. In 1940, Morris & Co. closed and their woodblocks and designs were acquired by Arthur Sanderson & Sons, who continues to print the wallpapers even today. This edition of the ‘Sunflower’ wallpaper was printed in the mid-20th century and features a vibrant red and olive colorway, a far cry from the natural palette of Morris’s original design.

Condition: Very good. Paper with slight warping. Framing prong overlaps wallpaper in two areas (see image). Not examined out of frame.

William Morris Hand-Blocked Honeysuckle Wallpaper Panel
By William Morris (English)
Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL
A 'Honeysuckle' pattern wallpaper panel designed by May Morris in 1883 for Morris & Co.
Although best known for her embroideries and textiles, May Morris also designed some wallpapers at her father’s firm Morris & Co. ‘Honeysuckle’ is her most famous wallpaper design; it was also one of the most popular patterns among consumers and is produced even today. May would have been about 21 years old when she created this pattern, and while she may have received some assistance from her father, the confident design shows an understanding of composition and color theory on the level of an experienced designer.
Dimensions: 52 3/8 in. H x 21 1/4 in. W (133.2 cm H x 54.2 cm W)
Condition: Very good. Paper with slight warping. Some slight creasing along selvedge. Light crease in center approximately 2 3/4 inches long. Not examined out of frame.

Brunschwig and Fils Boscobel Restoration Medford Inn 1804 Hand-Printed Wallpaper
By Brunschwig & Fils
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Brunschwig and Fils Boscobel Restoration Medford Inn 1804 hand-printed wallpaper. Very unusual paper - it is marked as custom hand-printed for the Boscobel Restoration, Inc. with a copyright date of 1977. The Boscobel Restoration is a rebuilt historic mansion (see images 9 and 10) in Garrison, NY using salvaged parts of an original Federal-period home that was demolished in the 1950s. This is a historic pattern, marked on the paper as "Medford Inn, 1804" and a registered design of the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities. The Medford Inn (see image 11) was built in 1804 and became known as a well-known hotel located on Main Street in Medford, Massachusetts.
The design of the paper hearkens back to Roman tradition of wall decoration, with a trompe l’oleil effect that mimics ornate panelling and stone inlay. As per the this paper was also produced in a brown colorway and is part of the Digital Public Library of America and Historic New England...
