William Morris Hand-Blocked Sunflower Wallpaper Panel
By William Morris (English)
Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL
A 'Sunflower' pattern wallpaper panel designed by William Morris in 1879 and printed by Arthur Sanderson & Sons circa 1960 in a brilliant red and olive colorway.
First designed in 1879, the William Morris ‘Sunflower’ wallpaper pattern has lasting appeal and has been printed for many generations of wallpaper enthusiasts. The sunflower as a design motif became extremely popular in the late 19th century in conjunction with the Arts & Crafts and Aesthetic Movements, which looked to nature for design inspiration. In 1940, Morris & Co. closed and their woodblocks and designs were acquired by Arthur Sanderson & Sons, who continues to print the wallpapers even today. This edition of the ‘Sunflower’ wallpaper was printed in the mid-20th century and features a vibrant red and olive colorway, a far cry from the natural palette of Morris’s original design.
Dimensions: 52 3/8 in. H x 21 1/4 in. W (133.2 cm H x 54.2 cm W)
Condition: Very good. Paper with slight warping. Framing prong overlaps wallpaper in two areas (see image). Not examined out of frame.

William Morris Hand-Blocked Honeysuckle Wallpaper Panel
By William Morris (English)
Located in Fort Lauderdale, FL
A 'Honeysuckle' pattern wallpaper panel designed by May Morris in 1883 for Morris & Co.
Although best known for her embroideries and textiles, May Morris also designed some wallpapers at her father’s firm Morris & Co. ‘Honeysuckle’ is her most famous wallpaper design; it was also one of the most popular patterns among consumers and is produced even today. May would have been about 21 years old when she created this pattern, and while she may have received some assistance from her father, the confident design shows an understanding of composition and color theory on the level of an experienced designer.
Dimensions: 52 3/8 in. H x 21 1/4 in. W (133.2 cm H x 54.2 cm W)
Condition: Very good. Paper with slight warping. Some slight creasing along selvedge. Light crease in center approximately 2 3/4 inches long. Not examined out of frame.

William Morris Full-Color Patterns and Designs.
William Morris by Courier Corporation, Jun 1, 1988 - Design - 41 pages
Defining beauty in art as the result of man's pleasure in his work, the noted English poet, designer, craftsman and pioneer Socialist William Morris (1834?1896) spent most of his life enthusiastically expounding this view through his many attractive designs for interior furnishings.
The present book faithfully reproduces 40 of the most celebrated examples of Morris's work, reprinting in full color all the color plates from The Art of William Morris, published by George Bell & Sons in 1897. Included in this splendid, ready-to-use archive are richly detailed wallpaper designs incorporating marigold, vine, acanthus, apple, wild tulip, daisy and trellis motifs; hand-painted tiles with a rose pattern; chintzes displaying honeysuckle and bird and anemone designs; an acanthus design on printed velveteen; a superb peacock and dragon design on woven wool tapestry; a magnificent Kidderminster carpet with its lily motif.
Originally intended to decorate Victorian homes, these tasteful patterns provide a wealth of source material for modern artists working in advertising, textile, residential or industrial design. Commercial artists and graphic designers will welcome this modestly priced collection of copyright-free designs by one of the most influential artists of the Victorian period.
About the author (1988)
Morris was the Victorian Age's model of the Renaissance man. Arrested in 1885 for preaching socialism on a London street corner (he was head of the Hammersmith Socialist League and editor of its paper, The Commonweal, at the time), he was called before a magistrate and asked for identification. He modestly described himself upon publication (1868--70) as "Author of "The Earthly Paradise,' pretty well known, I think, throughout Europe." He might have added that he was also the head of Morris and Company...
