Vintage Wing Chair and Ottoman in William Morris Strawberry Thief Cotton Fabric

About the Item

A vintage, roomy wingback armchair and ottoman reupholstered in the iconic "Strawberry Thief" pattern crafted in the United Kingdom and created by renowned Arts & Crafts textile designer William Morris. The chair has large mahogany paw feet at front while the ottoman has claw and ball feet. Though not a original pairing, the shape, height and heft of the chair and ottoman work well together. The chair also has a pair of antimacassar arm covers in the same fabric as the upholstery. The original Strawberry Thief fabric design c. 1883, has been recreated in this 100% cotton fabric. It is an enduring classic, with its symmetry and intricate detail of both strawberries and thrushes. Morris & Co iconic design at its best, it was said to be inspired by the thrushes Morris found stealing fruit from his kitchen garden. Captivating, bold, and beautiful, this exquisite color palette is in the crimson/slate colorway. It is both quirky and traditional all at the same time. Dimensions: Chair: 46"h x 39"w x 35"d. Arm Height 26" Seat Height 18" Ottoman: 18"h x 30'w x 24"d Condition: Good. The fabric is clean. The feet have some nicks from contact with a vacuum or broom. Shows well. Ready to place.
