"Abstract Composition 3" Abstract Oil Painting 24" x 18" inch by Youssef Sida Signed and dated 1990 Youssef Sida 1922-1994 Born in 1922 in Damietta, and in 1945 he got his degree from the Higher Institute of Educational Art. In 1947, he participated in establishing the influential Group of Modern Art. In 1949 he participated in the Egyptian exhibition in Paris. In 1950, he received the Full Bright award for studying art at Minnesota University. He then studied at Colombia University in NY and began exhibiting his work in NY and Minnesota from 1951-1952. He participated in 1953 in the Biennale of Sao Paulo in Brazil. Upon returning to Egypt in 1954, he became active in local and international exhibitions. In 1961, he was sent by the Egyptian government to receive his Ph.D. from Columbus University, Ohio. After, he started exhibiting his work in Columbus and Washington DC. Y.Sida’s work at the start was mainly dealing with popular Egyptian themes. We can distinguish Sida’s work through his power of using primary colors in its purest form directly in the tubes without being mixed with other colors. Also, we can notice in his work a tendency towards the qualities and techniques of children’s art. In his later years, Sida began experimenting with Arabic Calligraphy by concentrating on the forms and shapes that are dominant in the popular Egyptian motives and décor. His father was one of the first Georgian psychanalyst; but working with the conscient and subconscient of the homo sovieticus was a disputed occupation, criticized by the soviet ideology. Therefore, it required a significant dose of audacity; it’s in this context of insubordination and freedom, that Guela tirelessly repeats that he will be an artist, without ever having painted anything. The father thus commissioned his first work: a black dot on the ceiling of his office, which his patients would fix during the sessions. The gateway to hypnosis, and the artist’s future signature. Perhaps Guela's innate sense of daring and escapism comes from there; these two themes are till today reflected in his works. Guela grows up in a surreal artistic universe, between France and Georgia, inspired in particular by Pirosmani, the brothers Zdanevitch and Salvador Dali, whom he met shortly before his death in 1981 at Portiligat Cadaques, and surrounded by the filmmaker Paradjanov, a friend of the Tsouladze family. Artists statement: The key themes of my works are the study of the natural landscape of our planet, drawing attention to environmental issues and the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. I work in mixed techniques, as I like to experiment with paints on different bases and observe how they interact with each other. Such experiments often lead me to surprising results. I most often find the phrases and captions integrated into my works in in-flight magazines, glossies, advertising campaigns and other print media. More precisely, the right phrases find me on their own at the right time when I'm working on a particular painting. Glimpsed phrases are often stored in our subconscious and sometimes serve as a trigger or set a vector of movement. Motivational phrases in paintings are like beacons that point in the right direction so as not to veer off course. John Paul spent 15 years studying and mastering his technique, and only a few years ago he finally started showcasing his work. In his paintings he engages questions of identity as they relate to art history as well as our everyday interactions with mainstream culture and social media. Born in Helmia district, Cairo on 4 September 1905, El Hussein Fawzi was known in Egypt and the Middle Eastern his pioneering work in the field of journalistic graphic arts. Fawzibegan his artistic studies in 1922 at the School of Fine Arts, studying oil painting. He won the first prize at an art competition for which he received an art fellowship in 1928 and entered the printing school in Paris, from which he received a lithography diploma in 1932. He also studied lithography at the Estienne School in Paris. He was an artist and professor of oil painting before joining the ParisHigher School of Arts and Decoration from which he received a diploma in1933.
