Rare 19th Century French Doors with Capriccio Oil Painting and Chinoiserie Verso
Located in Dallas, TX
Truly a one-of-a-kind set of architecturals, these French doors feature a lovely capriccio oil painting on one side and a lacquered Chinoiserie on the verso. Dating to the 1800s, the wood frames on the front side of the doors (as seen in the main photo) have been painted true white more recently. Raised layers of molding surround a large landscape painting of ochre, brown, and gold. A protruding cornice of rounded molding adorns the frames just below the canvas, above a carved rectangular molding and raised kickplate. The capriccio (a capriccio is an architectural fantasy painting) depicts a massive, bifurcated round staircase surrounding a large outdoor fountain...

Pair of Circa 1750 Walnut Wood Entry Doors from Spain
Located in Dallas, TX
Spanish furniture and architecturals of the 18th century, such as this pair of walnut wood entry doors, were highly influenced by French stylings. Hand-carved circa 1750, the doors feature deep, sinuous moldings, reminiscent of the curvaceous motifs seen during the reign of Louis XV. The amazing doors have a rich brown patina that accentuates the charm of the carvings, which are also enhanced by the visible screws used to join the pieces of walnut wood. Comprised of five carved panels per door, each carving is similar: a rough rectangle with rounded ends and barbed counter curves. The three smaller panels are orientated horizontally, surrounding the two larger and vertically arranged panels. A thickly scrolled bronze pull can be seen on each door, also functioning as door knockers (the door on the right has commensurate wear from the pull striking the wood). Because these Spanish entry doors...

Circa 1800 Italian Lobed Basin in Carved Verona Rosso Marble

Thick gadroon lobes adorn the outside of the oval basin, beneath a quarter-round rim under a raised molding. The timeless carvings and warm color of the marble can be paired with just about any style of interior design. Well Carved Italian Limestone Planter or Fountain Element, H-45 Inches
Located in Dallas, TX
Standing over 45 inches tall, this well-carved limestone planter or fountain element would have a commanding presence in any landscape installation. Hand-carved in Italy in two sections (the basin is separate from the column/plinth section), a central drainage hole runs through both sections, allowing it to be plumbed for a fountain, either as a spill bowl or with a vertical jet. The basin is six inches tall and has a diameter of almost 30 inches and is adorned with two layers of gadroon separated by a deep cavetto cornice. Interestingly, the bottom ring of lobes terminates beneath a large, attenuated leaf that can be seen under the basin. The beautifully carved basin is supported by an equally impressive, fluted column above a bulbous third section of gadroon. A thickly molded circular plinth with a large leaf cup offers stability and additional aesthetic appeal. The light gray stone has developed a mottled white, gold, and black patina with green and brown moss/lichen accumulation. Our Italian limestone planter could be used in a garden as an elevated planter...

Period Gothic Oak Trunk or Chest Façade from Picardie France, circa 1550
Located in Dallas, TX
Often when centuries-old trunks did not survive the passage of time, 19th-century menuisiers (French woodworkers) would salvage the surviving wood and carve new furniture such as desks and similar trunks. The facade was typically the most ornate section of these antique trunks, making intact frontages highly valued antiques. Hand-carved from oak in Picardie, France, circa 1550, this period Gothic architectural is a beautiful example of an antique trunk facade that was not incorporated into a more recent furnishing. Picardie is a former administrative region in northern France that is home to many Gothic cathedrals. The Amiens Cathedral (mid-13th century) is the largest standing cathedral in Europe and is truly a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Our trunk frontage has five vertically oriented inset panels embellished with various forms of Gothic tracery, including high-arching niches...

Large Period Louis XVI French Painted Overdoor or Headboard, circa 1790
Located in Dallas, TX
Originally an overdoor from a boiserie room at a French chateau, this large architectural was hand-carved during the Louis XVI period, circa 1790. The overdoor is roughly rectangular, with the exception of the stepped bottom molding, which would have been necessary to fit over the door frame. In the center of the overdoor is a classical urn adorned with imbricated disks and gadrooning and topped with a pinecone finial. The vessel is surrounded by an ovate border embellished with bead and reel, an oval floret, scrolls, and foliage. Two bundled leaf swags emanate from the top of the medallion, flowing in opposite directions, with crinkled ribbon loosely twirled around the greenery. An additional crinkled ribbon is wrapped around the garland just before the swag feeds through a hoop and turns downwards. Prominent molding with several thick layers surrounds the low-relief carvings, providing a nice border to the architectural panel. The wood has been painted a grayish-green color, sometimes referred to as “French gray”, which is a very neutral color that can be paired with many interior color palettes. Our Louis XVI painted overdoor...

Pair of French Louis XVI Style Silvered Bronze Chenets, circa 1900
Located in Dallas, TX
This pair of brightly silvered bronze chenets are from France (circa 1900), in the style of Louis XVI, as noted by the presence of laurel leaf festoons and pots au feu finials. They were used in well-appointed homes, not only to decorate the front of the fireplace, but to prevent burning logs from rolling onto priceless rugs, should they break free of the fire. Often seen in natural wrought iron, or gilded in gold (in finer homes), it is unusual to see them in silvered bronze. Each finial has two pots au feu of different sizes and orientation adorned with a laurel swag. The larger fire pot...

Pair of Large French Cast Garden Vases after the Models of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
By Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
Located in Dallas, TX
After the original 18th century garden vases, entitled Autumn, by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, this pair of large cast garden vases are in the classic krater form. A sprawling scene with mascarons, rams’ heads, and grapevines are set between egg and dart molding and gadrooned lobes. Made with a mixture of crushed stone and cement (known as reconstituted stone), the tall vases were imbued with a cream coloring agent during the casting process. Each vase is supported by a thick rectangular plinth beneath a tapering neck adorned with geometric motifs and Vitruvian waves filled with flowers. These impressive garden vases will make a wonderful statement, inside or outdoors. Carved Italian Marble Sundial with Iron Gnomon

Hand-carved in Italy, this beautiful marble sundial has a turned iron gnomon that mirrors a thin twisted rope molding along the outer edges. Beneath the gnomon attachment are colored inserts that form a blue, red, yellow, and green compass rose, providing a colorful contrast to the cream marble with subtle tan and gray veining. As the earth rotates on its axis, the gnomon casts a shadow onto the marble which is incised with Roman Numerals on a stylized scroll. Directly under the tip of the angled gnomon is “XII”, indicating noon. The numbers to the left of XII run counterclockwise, starting with “VI”. On the opposite side, the numerals continue in a counterclockwise manner, terminating in a second “VI” (which would be PM if the sundial...
