About Lichtenstein’s Mirror Series (taken from Corlett):
Mirrors were an important subject in Lichtenstein’s paintings and prints of the early 1970s. From late 1969 to 1972 he painted over forty canvases depicting this subject. The first print was in 1970, with Twin Mirrors (cat. no.102) for the Guggenheim Museum. In 1972 he also produced Mirror (cat. No. 115) at Styria Studio, in addition to this Gemini G.E.L. series of nine prints. In the mid-seventies he took up the subject in sculpture, and he returned to it in prints as recently 1990, with Mirror (cat. No 246). In addition, he has often explored the related theme of reflections, incorporating them in various paintings and in several print series: Reflections (1990; cat. Nos. 239 – 245), Interiors (1990, published 1991; cat. nos. 247 – 54), and Water Lilies (1992; cat. nos. 261 – 66).
This Gemini group (catalog nos. 1-6 - 114) utilizes lithography, screenprint, line-cut, and embossing... In an interview with Lawrence Alloway, Lichtenstein noted: “You know, I am always impressed by how artificial things look – like descriptions of office furniture in newspapers. It is the most dry kind of drawing, as in the Mirrors. They really only look like mirrors if someone tells you they do. Only once you know that, they may be moved as far as possible from realism, but you want it to be taken for realism. In 1983, Warhol created Sidewalk for the Eight by Eight to Celebrate the Temporary Contemporary portfolio. The portfolio itself consisted of eight prints created by various artists as a fundraising vehicle for the MOCA in Los Angeles. The participating artists included: Richard Diebenkorn, Sam Francis, David Hockney, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Rauschenberg, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Tinguely, and Andy Warhol. The Eight By Eight portfolio was printed in an edition of 250. Warhol also produced 45 unique trial proofs for the Sidewalk edition.
Warhol's contribution of Sidewalk is based on his own photograph of film stars' signatures, footprints, and handprints as they appeared at the Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood, CA (now called TCL Chinese Theater). This particular shot showcases Cary Grant, Judy Garland, Jack Nicholson and Shirley Temple. “Much of Warhol’s work was concerned with celebrity, but while he cultivated the appearance of the ultimate fan, often celebrating the glamour of the American dream and its cultural heroes, his works also challenge the beliefs intrinsic to those ideals. It was Warhol who famously declared that everyone could have fifteen minutes of fame. Originally a costume design for the American Millionairess Revue at the Théâtre Fémina in Paris in 1917, Florida (Pearl Dress) stands as a testament to the genius and creativity of Erté. It was at the Théâtre Fémina that Erté worked closely with Gaby Deslys, the greatest French music-hall star of her day. It was Madame Rasimi – the theater’s founder – wo discovered the young Romain de Tirtoff (Erté) and employed his talents to her theater’s great benefit.
In Pearl Dress, the flowing gold train cascades from the gown to create a wonderful sense of style and grace. As the primary source of color in the design, the gold and pearls sit in contrast to the dynamic black background of the print, while the geometric pattern of rectangles and squares, all deeply embossed and metal-foiled, create the perception of depth and drama.

Ricker created four stunning images for a suite titled ‘Sacred Places’ – all powerful images of earthly splendor. The vistas he paints, almost desolate in a primeval way, are a chorus of voices that sing of the glory of nature. In a style which he calls ‘Epic Visionary,’ he presents a view that is at once new and fresh and yet as deep-rooted and enduring as the pristine landscapes themselves.
In the images of ‘Sacred Places,’ Ricker’s harmonious layering and blending of colors, muted blues and greens, contrast with the jutting precipices and craggy outcrops of rock that punctuate each portrait. The effects of the elements are visible and beautiful, creating carved layers in the rock and earth, and weaving a ribbon of shimmering water as a central feature in each work.
