The piece is surmounted by a maroon marble top naturally decorated with white and grey veining. Underneath it is an ormolu bead and reel frieze. The two central doors are inset with stunning marquetry floral panels. Each one displays a floral composition, the two being symmetrical reflections of one another. The story presented by the makers of this sculptural lamp is set at a shoe cobbler’s workshop. Made in the traditional Viennese manner of cold-painted bronze, the piece is an outstanding example of high quality Orientalist design.
Three shoe cobblers are depicted working together in a traditional Orientalist building, one covered by textiles to protect them from the elements. The wall is decorated with a large pair of scissors, a tool often used by shoe cobblers.
In the foreground is a male figure reaching towards a wooden bench on which shoes needing repair are displayed. Behind him, sitting on a bamboo-supported table sit two other male figures. The first one is caught mid-speaking, in a pose suggesting he is excited. On his legs is a piece of textile. The man next to him is seen holding threads in both hands, repairing a vibrant red shoe. Crafted in Austria in the late 19th century, this magnificent three-piece clock set was most likely gifted to the Imperial Russian family by the Austro-Hungarian Royal family. Its design is inspired by various cultures and styles, whilst its high quality celebrates some of the best craftsmen of the late 19th century.
Of a tiered pagoda shape, the clock is surmounted by an eagle, its wings spread wide landing atop a vibrant lapis lazuli ball. The eagle is most likely a reference to Turul, a mythological animal which is a symbol of Hungary. This bird of prey is also a popular feature within Turkish traditions.
Within a canopy, supported on four sturdy lapis lazuli pillars two prominent silver-gilt bells are hanging. These are carved with various motifs such as acanthus leaf design and connect to the clock mechanism below. The bells ring informing its users of the time.
All four sides of the piece are inset with a clock, an unusual feature on an object of this type and a testament to its highest quality. The inclusion of clocks on all sides signifies that the antique is aimed to be a centrepiece, admired from all sides. The dial is decorated using the champlevé enamelling technique, whereby ‘parcels’ are carved into the silver gilt and into which enamel is poured. The 12 numbers are coloured in black with a gold outline and are surrounded by a white circular background making them stand out and easy to read. The hour clock dial is cast in the form of a sun, while the minute hand is represented as the moon. The two motifs symbolise one’s bright and gloomy sides of existence.

This pair of cold-painted and patinated bronze figures were made by Alfonzo Titze, cast from models by Carl Kauba (1865-1922), who was a removed Austrian artist particularly known for his patinated bronze depictions of the Wild West.
The bronzes portray a pair of Native Americans, each one standing on a rough-hewn deep red marble base.
The first figure portrays a Native American warrior, called a brave. Leaning forward his mouth is open as if he is shouting. A small feather headdress ornaments the figure's head. Vibrant red frills are decorating parts of the trousers and shirt, an animal fur boa, as well as a yellow, blue, and white scarf covering his body.

Historically, an ikat chapan robe was a status symbol worn by nomadic tribes and settles in Uzbekistan as well as other Central Asian regions. Paired with belt, tunic, and trousers, the brightness of colours and intricacy of the embroidery were indicators of the wealth of the wearer.
The robe in Mayfair Gallery’s collection is brightly coloured with large, red and yellow geometrical patterns on a cream-coloured base. The inside of the robe is also patterned, with red floral motifs formed in a geometrical and symmetrical pattern.
The outside trim of this silk and cotton ikat chapan robe is elegantly embroidered with white and red patterns. Such embroidery carried symbolic meaning, protecting the wearer from evil spirits. The long sleeves are a beautiful design feature, intending to cover the wearer’s hands and protect them from cold temperatures.
