Nicholson Fused Glass Bowl, 1992, American Art Studio Glass
By Rick & Janet Nicholson
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Vintage glass bowl in biomorphic shape was created by Rick and Janet Nickolson in 1992; it features a pair of abstract patterns in pink, cream, and white glass fused on thin, almost transparent green glass background. The green color deepens around the heavier base, creating a contrast with the light, ethereal body of the bowl. The bowl is signed and dated on the base near the bottom. Rick and Janet Nicholson of Nicholson Blown Glass Studio have worked together as a successful team since 1979. Rick first studied glass with Don Hartman and the University of Southern California and was a TA at Pilchuck Glass School for Dale Chihuly and Fritz Dreisbach in 1981; he continued to study with such notables as Therman Statom...

Rubboli Lustre Majolica Vase with Mythical Beasts Decor
By Rubboli
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Sculptural, large ceramic Neo-Renaissance Rubboli vase is finished in cobalt, red and gold lustre. Hand-painted decor follows the classical shape of the piece, with abstract pattern accentuated the base and the top of the vase, and traditional designs of mythical beasts surrounding central medallion motifs. The vase is a stunning, museum quality example of the revival of the magnificent Italian Renaissance decoration of the 16th century. Late 19th century collecting craze for Renaissance majolica, especially lusterware, prompted the Italian potters to hunt for the secret formulas that were lost four hundred years earlier. Studios owned by such ceramicists as Cantagalli, Molaroni, Rubboli, Santarella, and others attempted to duplicate antique lusterware pieces for the general public. Each studio developed their own closely guarded formulation. In 1870s Paolo Rubboli...

Jon Kuhn Early Sculptural Op-Art Vase, American Art Studio Glass, 1982
By Jon Kuhn
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Triangular faceted vase features a graphic pattern of ruby red, white, and dichroic glass encased in clear glass layers in sommerso technique. The body of the vase is cut and polished in triangular shape, exposing complex, colorful core; the subtle sheen of dichroic glass adds complexity and visual interest to a reserved color scheme. The vase is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom; this rare, hard to find example of American studio glass would make a great gift to any studio glass, art collector, or modern design enthusiast. Jon Kuhn is one of the foremost glass artists in his field, creating highly intricate architectural glass art sculpture that has won world-wide acclaim. He received BFA from Washburn University in 1974, MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1978, and Honorary DFA from Washburn University in 2006. Jon Kuhn early work was done in molten glass, but currently he works in cold glass that is cut, polished, and fused, resulting in sculptures that take in surrounding light, then reflects and refracts it back; they appear to change color and radiance when viewed from different angles and lighting. Kuhn creates cold glass art in a variety of shapes and forms, but he is perhaps best known for his glass cubes which contain a colorful glass interior cased in clear glass. Kuhn’s work stands out for its complexity, its geometric forms, and for its mesmerizing presence. Jon Kuhn glass...

Henry Summa Sommerso Helix Sculpture, American Studio Art Glass
By Henry Summa
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Graphic art glass sculpture or paperweight was created with intertwining blue glass spiral coil helixes and controlled bubbles core fused in clear glass layer in sommerso technique. The sculpture has triangular shape with slightly elevated base and soft, rounded edges; the minimal shape of the piece allows the bold flow of the pattern to take the center stage. The vase is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom; it is in good vintage condition with minimal, age-appropriate signs of use on the bottom. Rare, hard to find example of New Mexico studio glass would make a great gift to any studio glass or art collector. Henry Summa (1949-2008) has been working in glass since 1972. His early training in the glass arts was based on an apprenticeship at renowned Glory Hole Glassworks in New Mexico. Henry Summa Sommerso Helix Vase, American Studio Art Glass
By Henry Summa
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Graphic art glass vase was created with intertwining spiral coil helixes in dark red and pale-yellow glass fused in clear glass layer; the clear glass is encasing the deep, complex blue glass core in sommerso technique. The placement of helixes in clear glass layer creates an unexpected play of light and shadows, adding depth and definition to the piece. Minimal shape of the vase allows the bold flow of the pattern to take the center stage. The vase is signed and dated by the artist in etching on the bottom; rare, hard to find example of New Mexico studio glass would make a great gift to any studio glass or art collector. Richard Teschner for Loetz Merman Glass Jug c1906, Uranium Glass Elements
By Johann Lötz Witwe, Richard Teschner
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Striking Art Nouveau jug was designed by Richard Teschner in 1906 for Lötz Witwe, Klostermühle. It was made in mould-blown technique in opal or alabaster white glass with uranium green glass applications. Comb and long moustache are green, and eyes and pupils are made of yellow and red glass. The jug can be identified by multiple veritable online and printed resources; it was manufactured in clear and opal glass with both uranium green and clear green applications; some resources have the opal one listed as model no. 4506, but we haven't seen any mentions of uranium glass anywhere, making this piece rather rare and unusual. This piece will work very well in any style of interior or would make a great gift for an art and design enthusiast. The jug is in good antique condition with light, age-appropriate signs on wear on the bottom. Both sides of moustache have sharp ends; upon close examination of pictures of Merman jugs that were listed as "in perfect condition" and had the same sharp ends, we came to a conclusion that the sharp ends must be created as a part of manufacturing process during the application of long, thin strands of stretched glass...
