Small 18th Century Miniature Mahogany Chest
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
An Extremely Attractive And Particularly Charming Mid 18th Century, Georgian Mahogany Miniature Chest, Retaining Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina Throughout, Having Two Short And Three Long Drawers, Retaining Original Brass Ring Handles, Raised On Original Shaped Bracket Feet. Although there has always been a large amount of discussion and conjecture as to the original purpose of antique miniature furniture it will be almost impossoble for a definitive answer to be given for by far the majority of surviving pieces. The two well known and accepted purposes were either as an apprentice piece, meaning that the item may well have been made by a hopeful young man looking to secure himself a job at the local cabinet making workshop and using the piece as an audition for entry, or alternatively as a travelling salesmans sample piece where scale models of the full size items which a workshop could produce were created, allowing the salesman to take them away and use them for taking orders. We believe that this wonderful little antique miniature chest...

Walnut 19th Century Wellington Chest Of Drawers
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Fine Quality Late 19th Century, Victorian Period, Figured Walnut Wellington Chest, Of Attractive Small Proportions, Having Rectangular Top Over Seven Extremely Well Figured Drawers, With Replacement Brass Ring Handles, Flanked By Pilasters Headed With Elegant Carved Corbels And Well Figured Ends, Raised On Original Plinth Base. The first Duke of Wellington, Arthur Wellesley, commissioned the first chest of this type, i.e. a tall bank of drawers secured by hinged locking pilasters to take with him and carry around various battlefields and that is where the name wellington chest comes from. It is now used to refer to almost any tall, narrow antique chest of drawers. From around 1820 onwards they were manufactured in a huge variety of shapes and sizes, plus they varied a great deal in terms of both their quality and the wood which they were constructed from. This particular antique wellington chest of...

17th Century Rectangular Oak Joint Stool
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Very Charming Mid 17th Century, Charles II Period, Oak Joint Stool Of Pegged Construction, Plus Untouched Colour & Patina Throughout, Having Rectangular Moulded Top Over Turned Upright Supports With Original Straight Stretchers. Sometimes referred to as coffin stools (although this was much more of a 19th century trend for their usage as opposed to their original purpose in earlier times) the humble antique joint stool was by far the most common form of seating in 16th and 17th century England. Indeed they were made in relatively vast quantities and almost every house would have a selection of them on hand in a variety of difference sizes and heights so that they could be used as required. This antique oak joint stool...

Small 19th Century Camphor Wood Campaign Trunk
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A Delightful Mid 19th Century Camphor Wood Military Campaign Trunk, Of Rare Small Proportions, Having Well Figured Lift Up Lid Enclosing Storage Space, Original Brass Bound Decoration And Original Brass Handles. Its widely accepted that trunks like this were normally purposed for army use, often given into the ownership of high ranking officers to use for their travels around the various battlegrounds and territories of the empire around the world, hence the carrying handles and the brass banded decoration, which also serves the functional purpose of protecting the item from bumps and bashes during the numerous times it would have been transported. In modern day living this trunk would make a perfect coffee table boasting signifcant storage, or could also be used as a storage chest in many locations around the home including the hallway, living room or bedroom. The trunk is also a little smaller than a large amount which yuou will find on the market, which of course allows for it to be used in an even wider variety of spaces. The trunk has also been inspected in our workshops by our expert antique...

19th Century Amboyna Occasional Table
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A delightful 19th century occasional lamp, or wine table, with well figured amboyna circular top and ormolu moulding raised on three elegant ebonized and inlaid turned supports, terminating with triform plateau and elegant sabre feet. Although victorian in date this table draws on a variety of different stylistic features, from a range of different periods. The use of beautiful amboyna veneers, set against ebonised mouldings is very much a 19th century feature however, the contrast created providing both a boldness and elegance all in one. This little occasional table is constructed from excellent timbers and when taking into account the overall quality of construction as well it is clear that it was produced in one of the top cabinet makers workshops of the time. Surprisingly sturdy for such a small article, which is due to the intelligent triple support design, this is a most practical table indeed, perfect for a wide variety of spots around the home, where one can use it to house a lamp, some photo frames or even a nice glass of wine. It is a great size and should fit elegantly into just about spot desired. Overall the condition is good and as with all items which we offer for sale it has received a natural wax polish by our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture...

18th Century Walnut Kneehole Desk
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
A very attractive early 18th century, George I Period, walnut kneehole desk of diminutive proportions, having extremely well figured quarter veneered, crossbanded top with elegant re-entrant corners, over arrangement of seven drawers retaining original brasswear, flanking central cupboard door with original brass hinges, raised on original bracket feet. In general kneehole deeks are regarded as a smaller, more compact version of the more typically found pedestal desk, with some form of an arrangement of drawers around a central set recessed cupboard being the typically found form. There are of course various different designs to be found along the same theme, but as a general rule that is the form you will usually find in a georgian kneehole desk...
