Regency Papier Mache Tray On Stand

About the Item

A Good Quality Regency Period Oblong Papier Mache Tray With Very Attractive Hand Painted And Gilded Decoration Raised On Elegant Later Faux Bamboo Design Stand.  What better way to look after the environment than to recycle beautiful, old, antique objects with little purpose in the modern world and give them a new purpose. Thats exactly what's happened to this pretty little Papier Mache tray. It is now an attractive and functional coffee table or even just side table, with the added bonus that the tray is still removable and can therefore be used as an actual tray for carrying things around on when required. This particular tray is a nice small size which is big enough to be practical but not so big it would overpower anything else in a room. It is also in largely excellent condition with just some minor old marks, scratches, scuffs and dents that can be expected on an object of this age which has been used significantly throughout the many years of its life.  The tray table is in good, clean condition and ready to go straight into use having been attended to in our workshops by our trained antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale by us.  Circa 1830. Measures: Height - 19.25in. Width - 26in. Depth - 20in.

A good quality George III period mahogany oval butlers tray of panelled construction, having original brass hinges and pierced handles to folding sides, housed on later square leg mahogany stand. During the 18th and 19th centuries a coffee table was not what we regard as a coffee table in the 21st century. Coffee tables back then were always full height, effectively side tables. The modern, low, coffee table is really something which began to be seen during the early 20th century onwards. Based on the above there is a variety of different methods to incorporate a coffee table into an interior for people who wish to furnish their properties with genuine antique furniture, whilst still allowing for the practicalities and function which is required in modern times. Therefore as is now normal with by far the majority of these butlers trays which we see, due to the fact they make absolutely perfect coffee tables, this has been removed from its original, tall, folding stand at some point and fitted onto a lower, more practical and sturdy stand constructed from old antique wood. It's worth noting that generally this means an old broken table...
