This work features an nature-inspired creature taking shape from a combination of paper ephemera on a charcoal colored piece of paper. Fine white lines and small dots in white, purple, and pink emerge and scatter around the composition, bringing the work to life, like glittering stars in the night sky.
Artist Commentary:
Evening Moon Fruit is a burst of color in the night sky, perhaps the light of another galaxy or interstellar nebula? Existing between constellations and planets, lush with roses and pink apples, this work is inspired by our dreamscapes and fascination with science fiction. Original is comprised of pen, ink, acrylic paint, & antique collage clippings.

Years ago while on a hunt for compositions to photograph, I came across a splattered wall. I was in an industrial area in northeast Los Angeles and driving through an alley behind some warehouses. Artist Biography:
My artwork is engaged to nature and its recurrent patterns and rhythms. I use them as a base in order to create my compositions. I´m attracted to repetitive sequences, combining separate elements to form a cohesive group. It isn’t a strict conceptual idea of repetition on itself; my work doesn’t seek to impose an order or structure, but rather to enjoy the rhythm of repetition. Silk and paper have the softness and malleability that I need in order to create my desired forms, shapes and even shadows. The process to carry out my work is thorough and methodical. I choose as materials small and simple elements; such as feathers made out of paper and silk and then organized in a precise order. This allows me to build a group of entities that end up being the final artwork. My goal is to create projects that inspire, connect and touch people emotionally, taking the viewer on a journey through different ethereal, botanical and peaceful landscapes. In constant motion, these pieces reflect the fluctuating nature of life itself and humanity’s ability to embrace its unpredictable nature.
This collection embodies the shifting patterns and cycles that enable us to continuously grow and evolve, despite the unforeseen circumstances that come our way.
My hope is that these works are a reminder that a changing landscape can also be beautiful. May these pieces bring strength and encouragement to those who own them.

Nike's Advice XVII

Artist Commentary:
This work was started several years ago during a public art performance called Nike's Advice. I painted 130 feet of unprimed canvas with the public. It was scary! I don't consider myself a painter. I was having to accept Nike's Advice myself ... as in "Just Do It". Later I used my sewing machine to free-motion stitch around the paint, adding detail. Finally, the work was mounted on a stretcher bar with blue painted edges before being coated with UV filtering epoxy.

Oswald Home Laundry

Artist Commentary:
It all starts with Linnie Rose Oswald. She was my Great-Grandmother, the eighth of Elnore Rose's nine children. (All but one were girls.) During the 1920s she operated her own business and posed for a photo beside the laundry's vehicle. Family stories tell of a feisty red-headed woman with a will of iron, a temper, and a very strong work ethic who drove down the middle of Huntington, West Virginia's city streets as if she owned them. In all likelihood, Linnie needed these qualities. Being a female business woman in this era had to be hard! She would have gotten the right to vote around then. Later, Linnie owned almost a block of town and rented apartments. I remember her from the days when managing her apartments was problematic. Linnie lived to be ninety-six years old but dementia took her years beforehand. I was in college when she died in a nursing home in Kentucky. The last time I saw her, she wasn't aware of the visit. Her mind was elsewhere ... talking about the clothes she was making and the quilts she would stitch. What a woman!

Gold-leaf was added before the surface was coated in UV filtering epoxy. The works are mounted with copper roofing nails to a stretcher bar with gold painted sides.
