About the Item
Make Me A Believer, Original Contemporary Mixed Media Geometric Abstraction
24" x 24" x 2" (HxWxD) Repurposed paper on panel
Hand-signed by the artist.
Artist Glenn Fischer repurposes various papers and print materials, cutting up different sections of color, and combines them into newly imagined geometric abstract compositions. The combination of the circular centerpiece and the linear nature of the cuts is reminiscent of a sunrise or sunset as it passes over a horizon line. In this case, Fischer has combined various shades of yellow, red, and green to stand against the white brick lay of the negative space.
Artist Commentary:
I rescue discarded and outdated print materials including textbooks, album covers and magazines to construct my geometric abstract collages. I extract various characters, text and illustrations from their original context and recombine them, creating new meaning by way of their interactions. Through this process I weave a playful non-linear narrative into my compositions. I'm interested in creating relationships between shape and color while encouraging free associative textual meaning.

- Joy BuddiesLocated in Boston, MAArtist Commentary: The Joy Buddies were created from a simple question I asked myself - if joy were tangible, what would it look like? The Joy Buddies message is that we are better, together. I created them to symbolize the joy and hope I feel like I come together in unity with the people I love. Over the years, they have exhibited across the country in various sculptural and digital art forms but always keeping true to their same human-like shape and fire-painted designs.
