About the Item
Early 20th Century Central Asian hat, most likely from Uzbekistan, with intricate detailed embroidery accented by gold metallic threading. The interior is lined with a quilted printed cotton and the brim is decorated with needlework in a geometric pattern. The colorful design is in shades of hot pink, green, saffron yellow, gray and burgundy red. This special piece is from the estate and private collection of Peggy Slappey, a well traveled lady who passionately collected textile art from Central Asia. Part of Ms. Slappey's extensive collection was exhibited in 2016 at the Birmingham Museum of Art. CONDITION
Good antique condition with some signs of wear and loss to the embroidered threading. Please see photographs 11 and 12 for indications of the wear.
MEASUREMENTS
The inside rim measures 20” circumference. The rimless brim has a 2” rise with 6.25” to the center. Overall the hat measures 7.25” in diameter x 4.75” tall.

19th Century Central Asian Embroidered Chyrpy Mantle Cloak

Late 19th Century woman's mantle cloak or Chyrpy with the artistic hallmarks of the Tekke tribe of Turkmenistan. Though the cloak appears to have sleeves, it is actually intended to drape from the head with the sleeve style tassels hanging in the back. The cloak is primarily made from pieced silk textiles with intricate stitching that creates traditional patterns including a stylized flower and geometric shapes. The hem is decorated with heavy silk fringe and the interior is lined in contrasting printed cotton fabrics.
