About the Item

This incredible lame maxi dress was designed by Oscar de la Renta circa 1968-1971. We have added a photo of a very similar Oscar de la Renta gown taken by David Bailey for the September 1971 issue of Vogue. By 1972, the fashion world had moved on from this maximalist take on bohemia and colour-block prints started to emerge again. The fabric of this gown is stunning; rich navy-blue silk organza is detailed with luscious florals in burnt orange, candy pink, yellow and emerald green, alongside swirling botanical forms woven from shimmering gold lurex thread. The silhouette is of its era yet also classic, with a nipped-in waist and full skirt, softly pleated at the point it hits the waistband. The sleeves are sheer and full-length. The collar is voluminous and ruffled and plays to the extravagant femininity the brand is known for today. This dress is fully lined in navy-blue satin. It fastens at the back of the neck with a hidden tonal zip, snap closures and hook-and-eye clasp. With the original “Oscar De La Renta boutique” label this stunning gown is a show-stopping addition to any event wardrobe and is in excellent vintage condition. We did notice a small hole 3-4 mm diameter on the right side of the dress; we nearly didn't spot it as it gets lost in the folds of the dress and busy print. This is not noticeable at all when worn. The fabric has no stretch nor size and composition label, so please check our measurements below. We suggest a best fit for sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6 with plenty of room in the hip. MEASUREMENTS BUST - 35 in. (89 cm) WAIST - 28 in. (71 cm) HIP - 42 in. (107 cm) LENGTH - 52 in. (132 cm)

1970’s Ossie Clark Blue Chiffon Floral Dress With Ceila Birtwell Print
By Ossie Clark
Located in London, GB
Floaty summer dress from iconic British designer Ossie Clark, for his Radley line. This early to mid 1970’s piece features a pretty floral print in two layers of navy chiffon in a red, sky blue, green & white floral print by his wife and business partner Ceila Birtwell. Fitted around the bust, with a flattering empire line tie fastening and three covered buttons at the back in the same fabric. It would make a fantastic choice for a wedding or summer party and is in truly superb vintage condition with no issues. Best for a size extra small to small - our model is a size UK 6-8 or US 2-4 and this has room in the bust. Ossie Clark was a highly influential British fashion designer in the 1960s -1970s. In 1965 he graduated from the Royal College of Art with a first class degree and immediately began selling his work in exclusive London boutiques including Alice Pollock’s Quorum. Here he created a collection with textile designer Celia Birtwell which was one of the most famous collaborations in fashion history. Quorum was bought by Radley in the late 1960s which led to the ‘Ossie Clark for Radley’ label. Today, his distinctive dresses are highly sought after and admired by celebrities such as Kate Moss, Emma Watson...

1930s Midnight Blue Long Sleeved Floral Georgette Maxi Dress
Located in London, GB
This true vintage 1930s ankle length gown is cut to a classic tea dress style in a midnight blue, almost black georgette with striking peach, mustard and pale blue-grey florals printed across it. Full of character with lovely period details, it is detailed with a cowl neckline and sweeping ruffle. The sleeves are sheer and join to a faux-cover up that is actually attached to the dress. This ties loosely at the front however the wearer wants it. The dress has a bias-cut column silhouette and falls gracefully to the ankle. It is lined with black crepe throughout, however the sleeves are not lined and are sheer. The only opening is the keyhole neckline at the rear so you need to be small enough to slip it on over your head. The dress is in very good antique condition, particularly for a garment of nearly 90 years of age. She is wearable with care and the following points to note: There are some rather charming patch repairs to the bottom of the hem, left sleeve and one on the body in various sizes. It was clearly a dearly loved dress and it's rather hard to spot them unless you go looking for them. They could be better sewn but I rather like them the way they are and so we left alone when we restored other parts of the dress - we photographed a few so you can see what we mean. The cuffs were very narrow so we have moved the poppers and this has left some small grazes to the fabric - minor. Wearable 1930s tea dresses...
