About the Item

Winter 1943 Collection Paris Kimono evening coat in satin, fully overstitched, by Jeanne Lanvin Haute Couture, Winter 1943 collection. Powder pink coat called Rose Polignac in homage to her daughter. Straight cut, open at the front and fully piped in silver leather. Long sleeves with slits, symmetrically echoed in the side slits at the bottom of the coat. Completely reversible and unlined. Label indicating Jeanne Lanvin Paris Unis France Winter 1943 n°117. A few tiny spots of oxidation not very visible on the front and silver leather a little cracked. No other defects to report. Good overall structural condition. More to display than to wear, a collectible piece. Dimensions: French size equivalent 35-36. Shoulders 39 cm, chest 86 cm, waist 88 cm, sleeves 60 cm, hips 93 cm, height 108 cm. Jeanne-Marie Lanvin (1867-1946) was a great French couturier. She founded the Parisian haute couture house that bears her name, Maison Lanvin, at the end of the 19th century. Today, although no longer a haute couture house, it is the oldest still in operation. Jeanne Lanvin was a great fan of colour, and her favourite colours were Lanvin blue, Polignac pink (a tribute to her daughter) and Velasquez green, all of which are classics of the house. To preserve the exclusivity of her colours, she founded her own dyeing workshops in Nanterre in 1923. In 1909, the House of Lanvin, now a member of the elite, became a member of the Chambre syndicale de la Haute Couture française.
