About the Item
Circa 1770
France - Provence
Lady's bodice stay entirely quilted with yellow silk taffeta and Rouenneries dating from the end of the Louis XVI period. Semi-rigid bodice with linen yoke to position a stomacher piece on the front, and six whalebone pennants for support. The back is in linen and cotton siamoise with fine tricolour stripes, a type of Rouennerie fashionable at the time of the French Revolution. Lace-up fastening in the back with original eyelets. Small crenellated toggle with yellow bourette piping and reminder of the selvedges. Lining in patchwork of Rouenneries, reused indigo striped cloth. Tiny rings under the arms and a few micro repairs. Clean, spotless and stable, this rare piece of Provençal heritage is in very good condition. Only to display. Size: Very small size. Equivalent to the size of a 12 year old girl today.
