About the Item
Vintage Bienen-Davis black grained leather handbag, likely made in the 1970s.
Made from a grained or "Saffiano" leather, this evening bag features a chic brown faux tortoise and gold metal ring detail in front. It fastens with a kiss lock and the main compartment lined in fabric, with two open leather-lined pockets on either side.
A great little evening bag that's perfect for the upcoming holiday and events season!
Stamped BIENEN-DAVIS. Approximate measurements: 9.5in L x 6.2in H x 2.5in D with a 5in strap drop.
Preowned/vintage (40+ years old) with signs of age, use and wear: indentations/scratches to leather, scratches, color loss and some verdigris to hardware. Interior clean.
About the brand (from their website): "Founded in New York City in 1931 by Herbert Bienen and Edwin Davis, Bienen Davis merged American design with Italian craftsmanship and soon found their bags on the sets of movies and televisions shows, worn by some of Hollywood’s most iconic stars, and included in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The revived Bienen Davis is the creation of Richard K. Bienen, the fourth generation scion of the Bienen family. Having been raised in the bag-making business with his father, Richard H. Bienen, and influenced by the design spirit of his mother, Pat Mori, a former model who worked alongside famed designer Roy Halston, Bienen was inspired to re-establish the renowned brand. Today, Bienen Davis continues to work with the same Italian artisans credited for creating their celebrated past collections."
