About the Item
This stone pot was made in Korea during the late Joseon dynasty, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its sturdy appearance, carved from a granite-like stone, emanates a powerful presence that transcends time.
Korea has had a long-standing "stone culture," and the custom of using stone for everyday tools, such as stone mills, stone incense burners, and stone ashtrays, has been passed down for generations. This is testament to the Korean Peninsula's abundant stone resources, including granite, and the advanced technology for processing them. Stone pots like this one were used as cooking utensils in everyday life, and are valuable artifacts that tell the story of pre-modern Korean lifestyles and culture.
Of particular note is its design, characterized by a rounded body, flat lid, and four protruding protrusions on the sides.
