An exceptionally rare and opulent kimono hanger (ikou or ikō) of the highest quality, richly decorated in makie lacquer and adorned with gilded copper fittings, each intricately engraved with arabesque motifs and bearing the crest (mon) of the Tokugawa shogunate. This piece was part of the Shogun’s own household furnishings, underscoring its elevated origin and exquisite craftsmanship.
Crafted from premium wood and finished with lustrous lacquer, this stand exemplifies Edo-period refinement. Every copper fitting is gilded and engraved, including even the interior joints, which are fully lined with gilded copper despite being hidden from view when assembled—an extraordinary detail that reflects the utmost attention to elegance and prestige.
