18thC. Chinese Export Porcelain Bottle Vase Hand Painted Imari, Qing Ca 1740

About the Item

This is a beautiful Chinese Export porcelain Bottle Vase with good Imari hand painted decoration, which we date to the first half of the 18th century, circa 1740 or possibly earlier. This piece was probably made for the Japanese market The vase has an unusual and very decorative square section shape with a narrow necked top, having an everted rim.. The glaze is white with a very slight blue tinge. The porcelain is very white, pointing to an early 18th C date possibly back to the Kangxi period. It is beautifully hand decorated, using various shades of underglaze blue with an Imari palette of over-glaze burnt orange, red, a light salmon color with gold gilded detail. Two sides show a corner of a fenced balcony with a flowering tree above, while the other opposite sides show finely painted peony or chrysanthemum issuing from a rocky base, all within a cobalt blue outer line border. There is a border pattern around the upper body and around the neck. The painting is really well done and has been carried out in a beautiful free flowing style, typical of the period. The base is unglazed and unmarked.
