About the Item
A fine set of 4 Japanese Kutanti porcelain plates.
Each with a pair of painted maples leaves to the center in green, reds, and yellows. The rim with red & and green stripes.
Made in Kanazawa's Kousen kiln in 1946 and likely funded by the Economic & Scientific Section of the Supreme Commander of Allied Powers, whose General Headquarters were located in Tokyo. (General Headquarters, Supreme Commander of Allied Powers, Economic & Scientific Section)
With a dedication to the base of each that reads: 'William L. Bunting / Lt. Col. AC / 0-196377'
Lt. Col. William L. Bunting served under the command of Douglas McArthur in the Pacific and spent many years in Southeast Asia; his son Wilbur J. Bunting would later rise to the rank of Major General.
One of the plates additionally marked with G.H.Q-SCAP-E.S.S.-IW / Tokyo / Kanazawa / 18 June 1946.
We assume these plates were made to order.

They are in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition.
Condition Details:
There is some rubbing and scuffing to the enamel paint on each (the bases are unglazed) and fine and light crazing throughout. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
Marks:
Impressed to the base of each plate with a 光仙 mark for the Kosen kiln of Kanagawa. See description for full details of the U.S. SCAP marks/dedication.
