Chinese 19th Century Porcelain Cizhou-Ware Cat "Pillow" Offered for sale is a Chinese 19th-century soft paste porcelain Cizhou-Ware cat "Pillow". Heavily potted Chinese stoneware was produced from the time of the Song dynasty onward. Cizhou wares are characterized by black painted decoration on usually thick and heavy buff or grayish white bodies with relatively coarse surfaces that have been covered with a white slip or a clear glaze. The decoration could be painted, incised, or cut through the glaze, alone or in combination highlighted in black, white, green, or brown on a monochrome ground. Cizhou wares were produced mainly in northern China north of the Yellow River in present-day Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Shandong, and Ganshu provinces during the Song dynasty.
