About the Item

This exceptional cylindrical vase is a masterwork of Chinese ceramic artistry, rendered in the delicate and vibrant palette of Famille Rose Fencai enamels. The piece is a visual narrative, featuring a meticulously painted continuous scene of Shanshui "山水" —capturing the ethereal beauty of waterfalls cascading from mountain ranges and a serene village scene. The artistry extends to the finest details, from the intricate brushstrokes that bring the landscape to life, to the gold gilt "本金" that adorns the mouth rim, adding a touch of opulence. In the realm of Chinese porcelain artistry, the term "本金" (Ben Jin: real or genuine gold) refers to the application of real gold, often used to adorn the rims, handles, or intricate designs on the porcelain piece. This gold application is not merely decorative but is a mark of high-quality craftsmanship and luxury. The process of bringing back the shine of the real gold trim involves the meticulous polishing of this applied gold using a smooth agate stone. This technique serves a dual purpose: it enhances the lustre and brilliance of the gold, and it also serves as a test of authenticity. Only real gold will respond to the agate polishing by achieving a radiant, mirror-like finish. The use of of "本金" and gold polishing elevates the porcelain piece to a level of opulence and authenticity that is highly prized among collectors and connoisseurs alike. The "本金" gold gilt rim is a masterstroke in this work of art, serving as both an aesthetic and authentic hallmark of superior craftsmanship. Applied with precision, the gold edging did undergo the meticulous polishing process using smooth agate, by the hands of yours truly. This specialized treatment not only enhances the luster but also confirms the use of real gold, as only genuine gold can be polished to such a radiant finish. The result is a gleaming gold rim that appears as if adorned in polished, authentic gold, adding an unparalleled level of opulence to the piece. The cylindrical body is finely potted on thin walls. The base of the vase is marked with a well executed apocryphal Qianlong iron red seal mark, centred within a double footring, with a glazed center ring. This mark adds an extra layer of authenticity and historical significance, making the piece highly desirable for collectors. circa 1910, Late Qing to Early Republic of China ROC period, early 20th Century
