About the Item

This exquisite Japanese tea bowl is a prime example of Hagi Ware, crafted by renowned potter Seigan Yamane. Known for his innovative approach to traditional Hagi pottery, Yamane’s work is celebrated for its unique texture and meticulous craftsmanship. Multi-colored glaze creates wonderful waterfall-like pattern. The bowl is stamped with Seigan Yamane’s personal seal on the bottom, further marking its authenticity. Hagi Ware is famous for its earthy textures and glaze that develops a rich patina over time with use, and this piece is no exception. The bowl’s rustic yet refined appearance makes it a stunning standalone piece or an elegant addition to any tea ceremony set. Artist Description: Seigan Yamane, born in 1952 in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, began his journey in pottery in 1987, after a career in martial arts, where he excelled as a master in several disciplines, including Kyokushin Kaikan and Ashihara-kaikan karate. After establishing his own pottery in 1992, Seigan has become one of the most recognized Hagi Ware artists of our time. His innovative development of “Seigan Blue” glaze in 2002 brought him widespread acclaim. Seigan Yamane’s dedication to preserving traditional techniques while pushing creative boundaries has earned him numerous awards and exhibitions throughout Japan.
