Japanese Large Imari Porcelain Vase by Fujii Tadashi

About

Grand shishi lions in blue with impressive details in darker shades of blue soar above the fish scales representing the universe. Shishi lions symbolize power and strength. Giant peonies with intricate details, symbolizing royalty and wealth, decorate the surface of this remarkable vase. This large Imari decorative vase, hand-painted on an ovoid fine porcelain body in iron-red and rich blue, is a signed masterpiece by Fujii Tadashi, a highly acclaimed master porcelain artist and the recipient of numerous prestigious awards for his extraordinary porcelain work and his unique gold and platinum work on porcelain. Fujii's signature style, “fired-on gold,” highlights unique techniques for incorporating gold and platinum into the hand painting and multiple firing processes that yield a stunningly opulent look. The polychrome overglaze is fired at 800 degrees, followed by the application of gold and platinum that are fired at slightly lower temperature to maintain the luster of the precious metals. As a result, a single piece may undergo as many as 5-10 firings. The piece comes with a custom-made wooden box signed by the artist.
