About the Item

Korean celadon pottery, known as cheongja, was perfected during the Goryeo dynasty (918 to 1392), when Korean kilns began emulating the turquoise color of Chinese celadon wares of the Song dynasty. This vintage cheongja vase has a traditional silhouette known as a pomegranate vase and is cloaked in a glassy, translucent glaze with deep, blue-green color and an allover crackle. The globular body is decorated with a flock of white cranes using an inlay technique known as sanggam, wherein intricate designs are carved into the clay body and filled with white and black clay slip. A common motif in Korean ceramics, the crane is a symbol of longevity and, when shown in flight, carries an additional blessing for success and title. Maker's mark on base. Additional Dimensions: Diameter of Opening: 0.25"
