Large Chinese Export Dish or Plate Porcelain Blue & White 17 inch dia, Ca 1920s

About the Item

This is a very beautifully hand painted Chinese porcelain blue and white large Dish or Plate, marked to the base with the Qing, Kangxi mark( 1662-1722) but dating to the Kangxi revival period, Circa 1920's. This is a very substantial piece of blue and white porcelain weighing about 4.5 Kg unpacked This is a large, fairly deep plate, measuring 17 inches in diameter ( just over 43cm), which makes an impressive display. The plate is well potted with a carefully cut base rim and a glassy white glaze, with a very light blue tinge. The plate is well hand painted in a free flowing style, in varying shades of a clear cobalt blue, from the very dark to the very light blue. The central well is decorated within two blue circles, having an outdoor scene of two ladies (long elizas) and two children playing, all in a courtyard setting by the side of a house with a fence, rocks, bushes and flowers. There is a good six section border pattern around the outer rim with three scenes of two ladies sat talking, alternating with three scenes of flowers growing from a rocky base, separated with geometric and swastika sections.. The rear is glazed and has two concentric blue rings to the centre, having an apocryphal six character Kangxi 1662-1722, mark within it. Please note this dish was made much later than the original Qing Kangxi period and dates to the the 20th Century, circa 1920s. Overall a very impressive and highly decorative piece of Chinese Blue and White porcelain.
