Pair of Antique Japanese/Chinese Gilt Imari Arita Porcelain Rice Bowls & Covers

About the Item

A fine pair of antique Imari porcelain rice bowls and covers Likely Japanese but possibly Chinese. Each decorated to the exterior with intricate gilt flowers and vines on a painted green ground. The interior of both bowl and cover have a painted tiger, green & grey bamboo and leaves, and various geometric devices in blues, greens, and reds with gilt highlights Marked to each cover with an apocryphal mark (太明成化年製) that means "Made during the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty" (1464 - 1487). Simply a wonderful pair of rice bowls! Date: 19th Century Overall Condition: They are in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: Each bowl has an old stapled repair, one of the bowls has a small metal repair to the rim, and there is some slight rubbing to the paint and the gilding here and there. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Marks: Marked to each cover with an apocryphal mark (太明成化年製) that means "Made during the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty" (1464 - 1487). Measurements: Diameter: ca. 5 in. Height: ca. 3 3/8 in.
