About the Item

Described in ancient Chinese texts as the “moon dyed with spring water,” celadon ceramics are prized for their well-proportioned forms and luminous blue-green glazes. This vintage celadon jar was sculpted by artisans of the Mengrai Kilns in Chiangmai, Thailand, a small-scale workshop renowned for their celadon vessels and glazed stonewares, each crafted by hand using traditional methods. The small jar has an elegant form, sculpted with a rounded body, short constrained neck and two small loop handles. The shoulders are decorated with a raised pattern of vertical lappets, suggestive of the many petals of a round chrysanthemum blossom, a symbol of autumn and endurance. A pale green celadon glaze cloaks the silhouette with sheer translucency and a crackled finish, pooling in the relief design with greater depth of color. Stamped with maker's marks of the Mengrai Kilns. Additional Dimensions: Diameter of Opening; 1"
