Three Chinese Laughing "HoHo" Boys Hand Painted Circa 1800
About the Item
Our friend and client Mario Buatta owned a dozen Laughing Boys* in his private collection, which we purchased and sold several years ago (see last image). These three would have fit in perfectly alongside the others.
Mario's Laughing Boys were a standout in his collection.
At one glance, you can see the unique personality of each boy.
Each of our three boys is happy and smiling, and each one has his own unique character.
Made circa 1800, they wear clothing of that era.
Their jackets are hand-painted, and the vibrant colors of the jackets are exquisite.
Dimensions: height ranging from 6" to 7" tall x 4" across x 2.25" deep
Condition: Excellent
Price: $ 2,300
*Laughing Boys: The proper term in Chinese is He-He Er Xian. The Laughing Boys are a well-known motif in Chinese art and culture, often depicted in porcelain, paintings, and sculptures.
They represent harmony, happiness, and good fortune, particularly in relation to marriage, children, and prosperity.
