About the Item
An interesting beginning of the 20th century antique Chinese porcelain ginger jar, with fitted lid, which appears to be a replacement, and extremely desirable ‘Government Antiquities’ wax export seal still in place on the base. Traditional blue and white colouring on a celadon glazed background depicts a peacock nestled amongst oriental foliage and flowers. The lid, with its pointed finial, has some small chips on it, is a slightly different celadon hue to the main body, and is decorated with three stylised bats. The lids on these pieces were fired in separate batches and matched up afterwards – fitting perfectly onto the jar.
