Late 19th or early 20th century lacquer and bamboo offering vessel, Hsun Ok, Pagan, Burma A large offering vessel composed of four pieces, a base, a large food bowl with lid and the finial. Two rows of high-stepping mythological beasts embellish the body of the main food bowl. 37.5 inches high by 17.5 inches diameter (95 by 44.5 cm). This type of lacquer ware is known as yun, where the designs are incised, then lacquer is applied and wiped away, leaving the engraved lines with the black color. A few minor chips, otherwise in very good condition.
