Chinese Archaistic gilt bronze ritual bell with raised panthers on the sides, a stylized mask on front and back, incised and relief geometric decoration. With a wonderful verdigris patina. Large scale at 14.5 inches high, this is an impressive piece.
The high quality of the casting, the surface with the mix of the gilt verdigris patina, make this an evocative piece of decorative art.
In the style of the Western Zhou dynasty, 10th-9th century B.C. Circa 1900 or earlier.

Archaistic Shang dynasty (1600-1046 BC) style bronze 'double ram' vessel, Zun type.
Of unusual form with a lovely verdigris patina. This wonderful bronze can be a unique vase or centerpiece, or singular decorative sculpture. Circa 1900
The vessel is heavily cast in the shape of two addorsed rams sharing the same hollow body that is raised on four legs and from which rises an oblong neck decorated on each side with a taotie mask below a band of diagonal scrolls. The body is etched with scales and the legs with archaistic spiral motifs.

19th century Burmese bronze temple bell with original carved hardwood stand, painted iron hanging bracket, and striker. This rare large scale cast bronze bell has a splendid sculptural and spiritual presence.
The bell has a long inscription on the upper part. The offering of a bronze bell to a monastery or temple was considered second only to the offering of a Buddha image as an act of merit (kutho).
Such bells were cast using the lost wax (cire perdue) method. Casting of such bells was auspicious with specific rituals being performed by the caster and sponsors to ensure the appropriate blessings.
