Chinese Qing Yellow Cloisonne Writing Set

About the Item

A rare and exceptional antique Chinese Qing yellow cloisonne enamel writing or desk dating from the latter 19th century. The set comprises a lidded inkwell, a hinge lidded box, a pen tray and a nib pen. Each has a very fine wire work pattern set within a copper surround with the tray and box incorporating a Chinese Shou emblem, the character for longevity. Each piece is intricately patterned with a half loop wire work pattern filled with a bright yellow enamel. The inkwell is of tall elegant rectangular form graduating to a narrower top with a hinged domed cover applied with a Shou emblem and opening to reveal the original fitted removable glass liner, the inkwell with copper edging. The box is of rectangular form with a fully hinged cover with a bright yellow interior and with a Shou emblem to the center of the lid and with copper edging. The pen tray is of elongated oval shape and is also decorated centrally with a Shou emblem and copper edging standing on a narrow oval foot. The pen has a long solid body widening from a slender tip to the nib end fitted with a replaceable nib. The maximum dimensions of the combined elements are shown. Offered in good condition with natural wear associated to age and use. Provenance: Acquired from the UK art market.
