About the Item

A fine Japanese cloisonne hinged box with pheasant and autumn foliage, by Inaba Nanaho and the Inaba Cloisonne Company, Meiji period, circa 1900, Japan. The lovely jewelry or trinket box features a design to the lid of a beautiful long tailed pheasant with colorful plumage looking back towards a fall flowering cherry tree with autumn foliage, and a pair of chrysanthemum blossoms at the base of the trunk. Part of the tree trunk extending over the edge to the side of the box. The wirework design is extremely delicate, and almost invisible in places. The design set against a mirror black enamel ground which covers the exterior of the box. A geometric patterned band surrounds the box, just under the lip. The interior of the box of textured silver tone metal, and stamped with the mark of Inaba Nanaho and "Made in Japan". The underside of matte black enamel, typical of Inaba Nanaho works.
