A Life-Size 19th Century Gilt Bronze Thai Buddha with Mother of Pearl Eyes. This life-size Thai gilt bronze Buddha stands serenely in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture symbolizing fearlessness and protection. The figure reflects the influence of the Ayutthaya style, characterized by its elongated proportions and elegant drapery. The Buddha’s finely detailed robe is adorned with intricate floral motifs, and the surface retains much of its original gilding. The eyes, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, lend the figure a lifelike quality, emphasizing a tranquil and compassionate expression. The rounded ushnisha and tightly coiled curls of the hair further reference traditional iconography from the Ayutthaya period, a time known for its refined and spiritual Buddhist sculptures.
