Chinese Export Eight Panel Coromandel Screen Pagoda Courtyard
About the Item
Fantastic large Chinese export eight-panel coromandel screen featuring a colorful pagoda courtyard with figures engaged in leisurely activities. The large screen measures 7 feet high and over 10 feet long. Each panel is painstakingly lacquered and incised with intricate decoration and painted with natural color pigments over a dramatic black ground. The painting is framed and bordered with scholars objects in parcel gilt. The screen is supported by square legs and ends with patinated brass capped feet. The opposite side features a stark landscape with trees and birds. The lacquer and color pigments are vibrant and show well throughout the painting. From a grand estate in San Francisco, CA. Very impressive scale in well-preserved condition.
