About the Item

An Incredible and Large Chinese Qing Dynasty (late 19th century) Style Upper Nobility Ancestral Portrait Painting on Paper with a Beautiful 24K giltwood frame. The composition features multiple figures arranged in a tiered format within an architectural and outdoor setting. The figures are depicted in full-length frontal poses, wearing detailed robes with embroidered patterns. The most senior figures, with four claw dragons on their robes indicating upper nobility, are positioned in an elevated pavilion, while others are seated in lower sections of the scene. The faces, clothing, and surrounding elements are outlined in fine black ink with color washes applied to define shading and detail. The architectural elements include a pavilion with wooden columns, beams, and an open balcony. The pavilion's roof is partially visible with decorative eaves. Furniture such as tables, stools, and railings are present, depicted with linear perspective and ornamentation. The foreground contains trees, plants, and rock formations, along with a patterned stone terrace. Various objects are placed throughout, including books, scrolls, and vases. The edges of the painting are bordered by a simple linear frame, with the image extending close to the margins. The artwork is housed in a rectangular giltwood frame with rounded corners. The frame has mitered joints and a smooth, polished finish. China, Circa: 1800s
