About the Item

A Japanese six-panel screen made of paper, decorated with gold leaf and polychrome pigments, depicting a glimpse of daily life at the Chinese imperial court, set within a landscape dominated by a waterfall against a brilliant gold background. The reverse is adorned with silver leaf and painted susuki grass motifs on paper. The panels are finished with silk borders and a black lacquered wooden frame. Period: Edo-Meiji, mid-19th century Dimensions: 170 × 375 cm Condition: Good overall condition. Some restorations and cuts are visible at the top and bottom between the first and second panels. Two metal fittings are missing. Wear is present on the lacquered wooden frame and the back.
