About the Item

Wonderful work of a nude woman - likely a mythical goddess - by Japanese artist and printmaker Iwao Akiyama who was widely known for his distinctive images of cats, owls, animals and female deity figures. As a child, Akiyama studied drawing under the direction of local Buddhist monks. Later he studied with famed Japanese artist Shiko Munakata from 1959-1965 before venturing off to start his own career as a printmaker. The work has been matted and framed (in a beautiful gold gilt frame) and is ready to display The print is pencil signed, numbered (9/100), titled (in Japanese), dated (1978), and stamped/sealed in red by the artist and his his trademark red dot in the center of the image. A very beautiful and alluring work. Would be a great addition to collectors of Japanese/Asian art prints or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting. Akiyama's works can be found in numerous private collections and international museums including: British Museum, London UK Cincinnati Art Museum, USA National Gallery of Victoria, Australia National Museum of Scotland Tikotin Museum of Japanese Art, Isreal Frame dimensions: 21.5" High, 17" Wide, 1" Deep Viewable image 16" x 11.75".
