Kiyoshi Saito Signed Limited Edition Japanese Woodblock Print Nude E, 1966

About the Item

A beautifully composed, relatively rare woodblock print by famed Japanese Sosaku Hanga printmaker Kiyoshi Saito. Many consider Saito to be one of the most important, if not the most important, contemporary Japanese printmakers of the 20th century. This print, which is titled "Nude (E)" is from a series of nude images he did in the mid-1960s. The print features strong, contrasting colors, beautiful wood grain, and a complex engaging design - something Saito is famed for. It appears he used gofun, a white pigment, in the backlighting to highlight and accentuate the area. The print is signed in white and stamped/sealed in red within the image. It is titled, dated (1966), and numbered (17/100) in pencil by Saito in the lower margin. A quite rare Saito work. Would be a great addition to any collectors of his work or Japanese woodblock/Asian print collection or eye-catching stand-alone artwork in about any setting. Saito's work has been exhibited extensively and can be found in galleries and museums throughout the world including: Achenbach Foundation, Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco Art Institute of Chicago Cincinnati Art Museum Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art Kanagawa Prefectural Museum Los Angeles County Museum of Art Miami Art Museum Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Modern Art, New York City National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo New York Public Library Philadelphia Museum of Art. The piece was previously professionally matted and framed at the famed Kanda's Gallery in Japan. Frame dimensions: 24.5" high, 18.5" wide, 1" deep Viewable image: 17.25" high, 12" wide
