Framed Japanese Woodblock Print by Hiroshi Yoshida Kagurazaka Dori

About the Item

A Japanese woodblock print by Yoshida Hiroshi (1876-1950), entitled "Kagurazaka Dori" in Oban format and dated to 1929. From the Twelve Views of Tokyo series - Kagurazaka Street at Night after Rain. Date and title inscription in plate along the lower left margin. Pencil signed title and artist's name on left and right bottom margin respectively. Also bears the “Hiroshi seal” in the lower right of the image. Image size measures approximately 15" h x 10" w. Housed within a mat in a nicely craved wood frame. Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) was considered one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga woodblock print style in the 20th century. Widely celebrated for his landscape work, not only sceneries in Japan but also around the world from his extensive travelling. Many exotic and iconic places in India, Europe and North America found their way in his work but presented in a traditional Japanese style.

    Wear consistent with age and use. A strong image with rich colors, minor toning and slight undulation along the margin per mount. Frame with minor wear and rubbing as shown. Not examined out of the frame.
