Kiyoshi Saito Signed Limited Edition Japanese Woodblock Print Hirato Nagasaki A

$1,795

About the Item

A beautifully composed woodblock print by famed Japanese Sosaku Hanga printmaker Kiyoshi Saito. Many consider Saito to be one of the most important, if not the most important, contemporary Japanese printmakers of the 20th century. This print, which is titled "Hirato Nagasaki (A)" features strong, contrasting colors, beautiful wood grain, and a complex engaging design - something Saito is famed for. The print is signed in white and stamped/sealed in red within the image. It is titled, dated (1965), and numbered (77/100) in pencil by Saito in the lower margin. The print also retains Saito's original "self carved self printed Kiyoshi Saito" stamped tag on the verso. A beautiful image of a temple gate leading to the vast boat-filled ocean below. A rare Saito sescape. Would be a great addition to any Japanese woodblock or Asian print collection or eye-catching stand-alone artwork in about any setting. The piece was newly professionally matted and framed with an acid-free matt and new non-glare glass. Matted dimensions: 23.5" high, 26.25" wide Viewable image: 16" high, 21.25" wide This work can be found in the Harvard museum and the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Australia. Saito's work has been exhibited extensively and can be found in galleries and museums throughout the world including: Achenbach Foundation, Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco Art Institute of Chicago Cincinnati Art Museum Fukushima Prefectural Museum of Art Kanagawa Prefectural Museum Los Angeles County Museum of Art Miami Art Museum Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Modern Art, New York City National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo New York Public Library Philadelphia Museum of Art.
