Antique Japanese Burl Tobako Bon Scholar's Object
About the Item
A antique Japanese scholar’s object made out of a solid burl wood trunk section having an added bottom with beautiful surface texture and dark Honey mottled patina. Originally designed to hold smoking implements of traditional ‘Tabako bon’ set: hi’ire – container for lit charcoal and haifuki – tall container or a piece of bamboo for used tobacco ash. Could be also used for calligraphy brush pots or as a display stand for other scholar’s objects. Apocryphal Chinese four-character. Very fine asymmetrical form with an enhancing timeworn hand.
Dimensions: 10.5” wide by 8.25” deep by 5.85” high.
Condition: Please see detail photos. There are various and expected signs of age and use including a well worn interior, stable age splits and a very worn attached base with pitting, losses and old worming mentioned for accuracy as the presentation is classic Japanese Country. .
